Perlindungan dan Maraknya perburuan, Gajah Sumatera yang Nyaris Punah

IUCN menaikkan status bahaya gajah Sumatra dari 'terancam' menjadi 'kritis' jumlah populasinya. Diperkirakan, dalam 30 tahun, gajah Sumatra akan punah. Salah satu daerah tempat terjadinya kepunahan adalah Provinsi Riau akibat industri pulp dan kertas serta kelapa sawit.
